This is the blanket I've made more times than I can count. It's the one I give as gifts, the one I make when I want something mindless and satisfying, and the one every person in my life has asked me to make for them at least once.
Materials:
- 10mm crochet hook
- Super bulky (size 6) yarn — approximately 800g
- Scissors and yarn needle
- Finished size: approximately 120cm x 150cm
Pattern Notes:
- All rows use double crochet (dc)
- Chain 3 at the start of each row counts as first dc
- This pattern is intentionally simple — the chunky yarn does all the work
Foundation Chain: Chain 51.
Row 1: Dc in 4th chain from hook and in each chain across. (49 dc) Turn.
Row 2 onwards: Chain 3, dc in each stitch across, dc in top of turning chain. Turn.
Repeat Row 2 until your blanket reaches your desired length — approximately 60 rows for a throw size.
Border (optional):
Join a contrast color and work a single round of single crochet around the entire blanket, working 3sc in each corner. Slip stitch to join and fasten off.
Tips:
- Weave in ends as you go rather than leaving them all to the end
- Block the finished blanket by laying it flat and misting lightly with water
- This pattern works beautifully in a single color or with stripes — simply change yarn at the end of any row
This blanket makes the perfect weekend project and an even better gift. Wrap it up with a handwritten tag and it will be treasured for years.
